Initially scheduled to enter into force on 1 July 2026, the new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for professional packaging will ultimately become operational on 1 January 2027. According to Mathieu Lefèvre, Minister Delegate for the Ecological Transition, this postponement is intended in particular to allow producer responsibility organisations to finalise their fee schedules and provide greater clarity to the economic operators concerned.
Which packaging will be covered by the new EPR scheme?
As a reminder, the scope of this new EPR scheme covers all packaging intended for professional use that was not previously subject to an Extended Producer Responsibility scheme.
This will notably include:
Primary, secondary and tertiary packaging intended exclusively for professional use.
Packaging used across various professional sectors, including industry, retail, logistics, B2B activities, crafts, agriculture and healthcare.
Packaging made from various materials, including cardboard, paper, plastic, wood, steel, aluminium, glass and composite materials.
