Lille selected to host the new European Union Customs Authority (EUCA)

Strengthening EU customs coordination from 2027

The European Council and the European Parliament have officially designated Lille as the future headquarters of the European Union Customs Authority (EUCA). This new body will play a key role in strengthening customs cooperation and improving the monitoring of imports across the European Union.

Centralizing Import Data: The Role of the New EU Customs Authority

The EUCA is expected to become operational in 2027 and will centralize import data at EU level to support Member States in their control activities.

The authority will focus on risk analysis, management of trade flows, and enhanced cooperation between national customs administrations. By consolidating data and strengthening coordination, the EUCA aims to improve the efficiency and consistency of customs controls across the European Union, while reinforcing the fight against fraud and ensuring better oversight of goods entering the Single Market.

Lille was selected notably for its strategic geographic position and strong connectivity with major European markets. The city is expected to host nearly 250 full-time employees by 2034, further reinforcing its role as a key European hub for customs and trade governance.
